HOW THE PASSION SPARKED
When I think back to a time when I first became enamored with Cigars, the world was a much different place. My father was an airline director, and I used to travel with him often. I experience a great sense of nostalgia thinking about those trips, where we traveled the world, and passengers were able to purchase duty free cigars on the flight. This was a time when hot meals were served to customers a la carte according to their tastes, and cutlery was silver.
The stewardess would pass by with her cart, offer drinks that came in real glassware, and customers would offer genuine and sincere smiles that were warm and welcoming. I wasn’t afraid of anything, and as a boy, I listened to the adults on the plane knowing that they had my best interests at heart. I wasn’t worried about the sadness, doubt, or mistrust that is in the world today.
It was a wonderful experience, watching my father and his friends as they used to buy cigars on-board their flight. They would smell the cigar, talk about its origins, the special blends, and in general would be able to have fantastic conversations about cultures and people that sparked my childhood imagination in the most liberating way. Then they would light the cigar, sit back, relax and enjoy the experience. These aficionados were like a brotherhood, they enjoyed the socialization, the pleasure, the dream, and above all the relaxation.
It was a trouble-free time in my life that opened my mind to the opportunity and freedom that exists in the world. I remember my father and his friends really enjoying the experience of evaluating a cigar, not based on its label or origin, but on the qualities that made it great.
When I turned 18 years old, I really wanted to capture that nostalgic feeling, and pour those values and spirit into my own cigar business. It is what fueled my desire to work directly with Tobacco farmers, to spend time with family cigar businesses, and bring those qualities into a place where clients were able to experience them on a whole new level.
